Another alleged sexual assault has hit Canadian junior hockey as Mississauga, Ontario police announced they are investigating eight former and presently unnamed Ontario Hockey League players on the then-Mississauga Steelheads for a 2014 assault.
The alleged victim, then 22, claims she was dating a player, then 19, who invited her to his home where seven teammates were in attendance. She alleges her boyfriend took her to the basement for intimacy but that the teammates soon followed and took turns assaulting her for 90 minutes.
This comes as the five former NHL players — Carter Hart, Dillon Dube, Michael McLeod, Cal Foote and Alex Formenton — who were on the 2018 Canadian National Junior team go on trial April 22 for the alleged sexual assault of a woman during the World Junior Championships in London, Ontario.
The latter shook the nation when arrests were made in 2024, and forced several firings and changes in Hockey Canada. If the former incident is true, that would be another searing indictment on the old regime.
